Our mission is to build a positive future and inclusive culture in Emergency Medical Services, in which the underrepresented EMS Provider can be proud of what we do and the departments in which we work.
We intend to improve the recruitment of people of color into our field to better reflect the diverse communities that we serve, to offer support to the underrepresented members of Boston EMS, and to encourage professional opportunities for all Department members who belong to communities of color.
By providing education within our departments, we aim to facilitate a more harmonious work environment, as well as to enable our coworkers to provide better care to the diverse peoples of the city, so that we can all perform our duties with professionalism, compassion, and pride.
Objectives
- To support and encourage a culture of diversity in Emergency Medical Services, by providing support for those belonging to the communities of color and the underrepresented populations in EMS. We also stand in solidarity with equity for women, and those belonging to the LGBTQ community.
- We aim to be inclusive and intersectional in our organization, and while we recognize that the needs for each community are different, our goal is to advance respect, understanding, and diversity in the field of EMS as a whole.
- To recruit, train, and successfully secure EMT certificates for Boston residents belonging to underprivileged and minority communities who show interest in Emergency Medical Services.
- To aid and assist our fellow department members belonging to communities of color in successfully securing a paramedic certificate to allow for career advancement.
- To secure scholarships and grants that will help improve the knowledge and skills of underrepresented employees and future candidates.
- To develop diversity and race sensitivity education within our department to maintain a department free of discrimination.
- To develop programs and acquire volunteers to assist us in improving the health and wellness of our less fortunate families and neighborhoods in the city.
- To encourage Boston schools to begin teaching basic medical skills to their students to nurture their skills at an early age.
- To provide a free flow of information to the city’s underrepresented, low-income populations of color, in order to establish general knowledge about how they can have a successful and financially stable career in EMS as a city of Boston employee.
